The ancient city of Kaduna was our first stop for our search for Nigeria’s best youth football talent. Despite being a major commercial centre and transportation hub in Northern Nigeria, Kaduna is a hotbed of football talents. Nigerian Internationals like the sensational Rashidi Yekini, all-time Nigeria top-scorer in all competitions, was born in the Crocodile City. Daniel Amokachi, Tijani Babangida, Efe Ambrose and Moses Simon, to mention but a few, all began their football careers in Kaduna.
It was our hope to find such great footballers like these at the prestigious Ahmadu Bello Stadium, on Wednesday, February 8 2017, as scheduled. At about 11:30am, accreditation of players begun and the main sessions commenced an hour and half later. Faisal Abdullahi was the head of the local organization team and he did a beautiful job, bringing together about 40 prodigious talents all across Kaduna to take part in Turf Season camp screening. Turf Season Scouting Team was also on ground to observe the proceedings and identify talents for its Football Reality TV show coming up later in the year.
About a dozen youth players performed very well during the exercise and caught the eyes of Turf Season Scouting Team, giving them headache over their choice of talents. However, each city has been allocated a slot of at least 5 players for the Grand Camp holding later in April 2017. Will Kaduna produce Nigeria’s best youth player? Only time will tell.
